Lost property.

Heather Sykes from IVS has an intelligent Border Collie called Johnny, one evening in camp he sniffed something in the air. His keen collie brain clicked into action and Johnny dashed off on an errand of his own.
A short while later Gabriel was leading Pirate in the direction of a corral to let him rest for the evening when they were assailed by a black and white tornado. Johnny came galloping up and leapt up to grab an old grey hat -that was hanging from Pirate's saddle- in his mouth and dashed off with it. Gabriel looked surprised but shrugged his shoulders, "Who knows what that is about?" he thought to himself. Pirate was more interested in getting to the hay and water that were set out for him in the corral.
Johnny pounded back to the camp looking very pleased with himself. Once he got there he used his sense of smell to track down Owen Evans who was sitting outside his tent on a log writing a postcard home to his twin brother at Havillands stables. Johnny sat down in front of Owen and presented him with the hat.
It was the hat he had lost in the explosion a few days before. Gabriel had found it and kept it safe, not knowing who it belonged to. Johnny had caught Owen's scent on it and was able to make connections that a human couldn't .
Owen was overjoyed to get his hat back, he is very attached to it, he hugged Johnny and told him he was a good dog.
All's well that ends well.
