Day three the Gymkhana: The Ballon pop race
Representing Ottercombe Pony Club, Branch leader Bridie O'Houlihan and her heavyweight cob 'Sir Coblyn Mansard' better known as 'Cobby' for obvious reasons.
Bridie wasn't going to let the kids have all the fun, she and Cobby wanted a crack at the games too! Bridie tends to be a bit Amazonian at the best of times (which I guess you have to be to control a bunch of Pony Club kids and their parents!)if you were faced with her mounted on Cobby you wouldn't argue with either of them. They'd be pretty good in the Mounted branch of the police come to think of it.
Here, Bridie is wielding a bamboo cane with a pin on the end of it, trying to pop the balloons tied to the road cones.
No one else in the game is daring to go anywhere near her as she is probably quite dangerous.
Assorted Dampfords and members of the Pony club are watching in admiration from the rails. George -you may notice- has made himself scarce.
Bunny is wisely sitting up in the stand to avoid being accidentally skewered by an over enthusiastic Bridie! Cobby is a big lad, he isn't very tall but he is solid muscle, Isaac actually made Cobby's latest set of shoes in the forge back home. The Dampfords help Bridie's stable out a lot with shoeing at 'mates rates' plus repairs to farm machinery etc. In return Sarah gets riding lessons and Bridie's Dad -Michael O'Houlihan- often sends one of his workers over to do running repairs on Forge cottage- which is old and a bit crumbly round the edges sometimes!
